UMTS - definition

UTMS stands for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System which is a third-generation (3G) mobile cellular system for networks based on the GSM standard. It is developed and generated by 3GPP (3rd Gen. Partnership Project). UMTS provides optimum theoretical data transfer rates of 42Mbits/s when Evolved HSPA (HSPA+) is implemented on the network.
