Micro USB - definition

USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. Micro USB is smaller compared to the regular USB jack. It is also known as a Micro B USB jack. The working principle of a USB and Micro USB is the same except for 1 extra pin which is found on Micro USB. Pin 4 is considered as the Mode Detection pin which is used to detect whether the USB is connected as a charger or data transfer.

Unlike the USB C or lightning jacks, Micro USB is a one-directional jack. A standard Micro USB jack or port can transfer data at rates up to 480Mbps (Megabit per second). But there is very little type that supports USB 3.0 which can boost the data transfer speed up to 5 Gbps (Gigabit per second). The average size of the Micro USB is 6.85 x 1.8 mm.

Application: Usually the most used USB in mobile phones is Micro USB. Nowadays most of the flagships devices or high-end devices are using USB-C type.
