A-GPS (Assisted GPS) - definition

GPS (Global Positioning System) is a satellite-based navigation system that provides location and time information anywhere on or near the Earth where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites. It was originally developed by the United States Department of Defense and is now widely used for various applications including navigation, mapping, and timing.

A-GPS (Assisted GPS) is an enhancement to GPS that improves startup performance, or time-to-first-fix (TTFF), by using data from network resources (like cell towers and Wi-Fi) to assist the GPS receiver. A-GPS can be particularly useful in environments where the GPS signal is weak or obstructed, such as in urban areas or inside buildings.
