vivo’s upcoming X200 Ultra is shaping up to be a formidable force in mobile photography. While the brand had already teased a dedicated photography kit ahead of its April 21 launch in China, new details shared by vivo product manager Han Boxiao suggest that’s just the beginning.
In a post on Chinese social media, Han revealed that vivo has collaborated once again with long-time optics partner Zeiss to develop an attachable zoom lens specifically for the X200 Ultra. This modular accessory mounts over the smartphone’s built-in 200MP periscope zoom lens using a custom-designed adapter integrated into the photography kit.
At the heart of this attachment is a precision-engineered 13-element glass lens system, designed to extend the camera's native 3.7x optical zoom capabilities. The result? A staggering 200mm equivalent focal length, delivering up to 8.7x optical zoom and a hybrid zoom that reaches a jaw-dropping 70x.
According to vivo, users can expect highly usable images even at 800mm focal length (approximately 35x zoom), with functional performance extending all the way to 1600mm (70x zoom). Early sample images show impressive levels of detail and clarity, suggesting vivo's computational imaging and Zeiss optics are continuing to push the boundaries of what's possible on mobile.
As of now, vivo has yet to reveal pricing or availability for the add-on zoom lens. But if the results match the hype, the X200 Ultra could set a new standard for mobile zoom photography not just in specs, but in actual field performance.
