Landline - definition

A landline is a type of phone where data transmission or communication occurs through underground wires or optical fiber connections. People also call it wireline, mainline, home line, or home phone. All the dedicated lines are connected with switches and controlled by a central telephone exchange.
If any wire or fiber optic cable is broken somewhere then the signal also gets lost while trying to connect to the specific telephone line. Sometimes, it can be seen in home people using a cordless phone where the base of the cordless device is connected to the mainline and the device is connected with the base wirelessly by RF. A mobile phone use radio waves and get connected to the cellular network whereas a landline use a wired line and transfer or receive data. Packet loss in a landline is comparatively lower than a mobile network which makes the data transmission speed way faster in a landline than a wireless mobile network, but on the other side, a mobile network provides better coverage than a landline.
