OTA (Over-The-Air) - definition

OTA is a feature that allows communicating or transferring data wirelessly. Using OTA transactions can be made without direct contact using a cellular network instead of a local connection or cable or wire. This feature is one of the most used of all. i.e.; a device is getting software/firmware update from the vendor without even connecting the phone with the master device or sending the setup files using any sort of cable or anything known as an OTA update or Over-the-air update.
