Ethernet - definition

Ethernet is a way to connect a computer over a wired connection. Ethernet needs a simple architecture to create up the connectivity using computers, routers, and switches. A LAN connection can be created using a single router and pieces of wires. Ethernet ports are pretty similar in physical shape like telephone jacks but a bit wider than it. It needs an RJ-45 connector on each side to get connected with the Ethernet ports. Ethernet is also known as technical name “IEEE 802.3”
Ethernet has multiple standards but used the same interface. These include:
•10BASE-T: supports up to 10 Mbps
•100BASE-T: supports up to 100 Mbps
•1000BASE-T (also called "Gigabit Ethernet"): supports up to 1,000 Mbps
