Tecno, a well established name in the foldable smartphone industry, continues to push the boundaries of innovation. Following last year’s introduction of the Phantom Ultimate rollable concept, Tecno is now unveiling the Phantom Ultimate 2, a groundbreaking trifold concept device that unfolds into a 10 inch screen.

While current horizontal foldables are already narrowing the gap between smartphones and small tablets, the Phantom Ultimate 2 takes it a step further by offering a screen size comparable to full-sized tablets. This innovative device expands from a compact 6.48 inch screen when folded to a remarkable 10 inch LTPO OLED display, featuring a resolution of 1,620 x 2,880 pixels and a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Tecno Phantom Ultimate 2 hands on

Tecno claims that the Phantom Ultimate 2 is the first foldable device equipped with TDDI technology, which integrates both the display driver and touch sensor into a single chip. The device also supports screen hovering and is notably thin, measuring just 11mm when fully folded, thanks to its self developed dual hinge mechanism. This advanced hinge has been rigorously tested for 300,000 folds, ensuring durability. Additionally, Tecno has created the thinnest battery cover ever seen on a smartphone, with a thickness of only 0.25mm.

The dual hinges on the Phantom Ultimate 2 are designed to minimize screen creases in the middle of the display. Tecno envisions a variety of unique applications for this device, including a laptop mode where the bottom half is folded to function as a keyboard for note-taking. In tent mode, the display is positioned with two equal parts on opposite sides, enabling seamless dual-screen face-to-face conversations with live translation capabilities.

The impressive 10 inch screen on the Phantom Ultimate 2 also supports multi-window mode, allowing users to run three or more apps simultaneously for enhanced multitasking.

While Tecno has not yet announced specific plans for the official launch of its first trifold device, the Phantom Ultimate 2 offers an exciting glimpse into the future of the foldable smartphone market.
