Introduction and specs

Samsung has just released the Galaxy S24 FE, exactly one year after the Galaxy S23 FE. As expected, it’s very similar to the previous model, but with a few changes. Instead of being a redesigned version of the Galaxy S24, the S24 FE is actually more like a simplified version of the Galaxy S24+.

The Galaxy S24 FE looks similar to the Galaxy S24+ in terms of size and feel. It has a flat metal frame, two Gorilla Glass panels, and three separate camera lenses on the back. It’s also rated IP68, which means it’s resistant to both dust and water.

One of the key updates this year is the screen size. The Galaxy S24 FE now has a 6.7-inch OLED display, the same size as the S24+. However, there’s one difference: the S24 FE uses a 1080p OLED screen, while the S24+ uses a more advanced LTPO display. The S24 FE still offers a 120Hz refresh rate and supports HDR10+, but the resolution is lower than the Plus model.

The Galaxy S24 FE is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2400e chip. This chip has the same 10-core CPU and Xclipse 920 GPU as the one in the Galaxy S24+, but it works at slightly lower speeds. The phone also comes with 8GB of RAM, which might not be as much as some users would want, but it should still be enough for everyday use and even some AI tasks.

When it comes to the camera, the S24 FE has three lenses on the back. The main camera is a 50MP sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), just like the one in the S24+. However, the other two cameras are less powerful: the telephoto camera is 8MP with a 3x zoom, and the ultrawide camera is 12MP with a fixed focus. The front camera is a 10MP lens, which has been used in previous Galaxy S phones.

The Galaxy S24 FE comes with a 4,700mAh battery. It supports 25W wired charging, which is fast but not the fastest out there, and it can also charge wirelessly at up to 15W. Additionally, it supports reverse wireless charging, allowing you to charge other devices by placing them on the back of the phone.

Compared to the Galaxy S23 FE, the new S24 FE has a larger screen and a more powerful chip. However, these are the only major updates, so it might not feel like a huge upgrade for people who already own the S23 FE.

At first glance, the Galaxy S24 FE seems to have everything you need. But there are some areas where it could be better. For example, the phone uses a virtual proximity sensor, which is less reliable than a physical one. While Samsung has improved this feature over time, it’s still not as accurate as the real thing. Another missing feature is the microSD card slot, which used to be available in the "Fan Edition" (FE) models. Sadly, it’s no longer included, and many fans miss it.
